I own a carriage!

Tea time
Recently, I went to an auction.  My very first one and my bid won a miniature carriage.  It even came with a horse harness!

I tried strapping my cat with it to the carriage, but she wouldn't have any of it.  Ah well.

The carriage is about 2' long and 1' high, hand-made reproduction of a 19th century carriage, down to even the shocks.  It isn't really worth much (I've seen other miniatures on ebay for really low costs), but it sure is adorable and looks like it was made with a lot of loving care for detail.

I also haven't yet figured out what type of carriage this is meant to represent, I suspect it might be a mixed breed, somewhere between:
  • a phaeton (has smaller wheels in front than the back, but this carriage is closed while most phaetons were open carriages) or
  • a regency town carriage (because of the crests on the door and that it's a closed carriage) or
  • a Victorian brougham (closed carriage that's a fairly staid, plain black).

Type aside, I might have to go hunting for some tiny cushions, as the seats look really hard to sit on.

And, and...the carriage looks an awful lot like the one on the bottom of my web page (which is why I wanted it so badly).

It's sitting in my living room floor at the moment, but I'm hoping that once I've got my office set up with shelves, there'll be one large enough to house this little beauty.  I'm thinking of getting some straw for the shelf floor and padding the sides with old clapboards to make the area look like a real stable for the carriage to be housed in.

Below, it's positioned on my boss's desk (he was out).  And I was playing and showing it off.  But I did get some work done that day, really! ;-)
